67 Minutes for Mandela Day – Make The Most of Yours

Emadlangeni Local Municipality in collaboration with various governmental stakeholders joined together to commemorate the Nelson Mandela Centenary celebrations by visiting a home in Waaihoek in ward 3.

This is a child headed family by 2 boys named Li and No aged 13 and 15 who stay alone in a 1 room small shack, they were discovered by the local department of health school health nurses who then consulted the school principal to conduct a home visit. During the home visit it was discovered that the children live alone in a shack and depend on social grant.

The municipality therefore took it up its shoulders to go and donate all the basic necessities to Li and No . Speaking at the hand over Cllr VC Ndlovu said that he as a ward Cllr wasn’t aware of the living conditions of these two boys and he is grateful that they were discovered and we were able to assist with groceries and stoves and it’s us as community leaders that we ensure that these boys get a house.

Nhlanzadolo Combined School principal said that the children perform well in their academics you’d never see that they live alone. Li expressed his gratitude and thanked all stakeholders for the gift they have brought them and when asked why he never spoke about their living conditions, he said “kade ngivala ihlazo lasekhaya” with tears streaming down his eyes.

I’m here calling out community members to donate whatever they have, to these boys.
