In celebration of Youth Month, Emadlangeni Municipality hosted its annual Sports and Arts Festival 2022 at the Bensdorp sports field towards the end of June 2022.
The primary aim of the Festival, which was run in partnership with the Department of Sports and Recreation, is to promote social cohesion and encourage young people to keep active by playing sports and by participating in the arts.
On this day, young people participated in a variety of activities and games, including netball, female and men’s soccer and indigenous games. Entertainment was the order of the day, as guests were treated to a music festival.
At the end of the event, the winners in the various categories of the games were announced and awarded with prizes.
Addressing young people who attended the event, the Mayor of Emadlangeni Cllr Mzwakhe Buthelezi thanked all attendees and participants and encouraged young people to immerse themselves in sporting activities.
“Being active in sports has many advantages. You keep fit and healthy, and you are protected from the wrong crowd.
“I am therefore encouraging all of you to take part in sports so that you can be safe from crime and all social ills. Make Emadlangeni proud of you!”
