eMadlangeni Local Municipality Mayor, His Worship Cllr Mzwakhe Buthelezi, reaffirmed his commitment to education by hosting a Matric Excellence Awards ceremony at Bergsig School Hall, honouring learners who achieved outstanding results in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations. The annual celebration forms part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to place education at the centre of community development, while recognising dedication, resilience, and academic excellence among learners.
Mayor Buthelezi emphasised that education remains a key priority for his administration and encouraged learners to remain focused and disciplined as they pursue their future goals. “Education is the foundation upon which a successful future is built,” said Mayor Buthelezi. “Do not allow distractions, challenges, or circumstances to interfere with your journey. Stay committed to your studies, remain disciplined, and always put education first.”
The top five performing learners each received R10 000 registration bursaries, laptops, and USB devices to support their academic journeys. As part of the programme, the Mayor handed over eight bursaries to deserving students to further their studies at the tertiary level. A highlight of the event was the presentation of a Special Mayoral Award, personally selected by Mayor Buthelezi, awarded to Umlandomusha High School in recognition of its contribution to academic excellence and learner development.
The Mayor further urged learners who will be furthering their studies outside the municipality to conduct themselves with dignity and pride. “As you go out into the world, remember where you come from. Represent eMadlangeni with honour and become ambassadors of excellence wherever you may be,” he added.
Mayor Buthelezi also expressed his sincere appreciation to all sponsors and stakeholders who contributed to the event’s success.
